Name: Adam Cahill
Age: 40
Company: Adam Cahill Carpet & Flooring
Job Title: Director/Company Owner

How did you get into the flooring industry?

About 20 years ago, I used to help out as a labourer from time to time. I liked the work, so I carried on doing it and built up my skills from there.

What’s been the biggest change in the industry in the past 10 years?

Stricter health and safety rules, which is great in some ways but a pain in others! The range of adhesives and floor preparation products has developed a lot over the past decade as well.

Looking forwards, what do you think will be the biggest change in the next 10 years?

Further choice of safety floors and LVTs in particular. I think there will be more advances in technology in products across the board.

What’s the worst job you’ve been on?

The toilets in one of the Pontins holiday parks. The project included uplifting the old flooring; I tried to make myself scarce because the smell was so bad!

And what’s the best?

I volunteered my services for free to help rectify a project on the TV programme ‘Cowboy Builders’ for Channel 5, which was a great experience.

Do you have go-to-products for certain jobs?

Styccobond F3 and F40 from F. Ball, certainly for double stick systems. I wouldn’t buy those sorts of products from any other company. I’m partial to F Ball’s Stopgap 300HD too!

What do you like best about the job?

There are always different jobs and challenges within each project. I enjoy the variety and being able to meet lots of different customers from all walks of life.

What is your least favourite thing about the job?

Working weekends when it’s busy.
