Project of the month: Plaisterers Hall, London

F. Ball helps to refurbish luxury London venue following flood damage.

A suite of F. Ball products has been used by EdgeCo Ltd. to deliver a high quality, long-lasting floor finish in Plaisterers Hall, a luxury event venue in London, as part of a refurbishment of the building following flood damage.

When contractors arrived on site, the original carpet floorcovering had been removed. Their regional F. Ball representative had conducted a moisture test and concluded that the subfloor was sufficiently dry to proceed with the installation.

Primed and ready
EdgeCo contractors first applied Stopgap P131 general purpose primer over the subfloor, to seal the entire 900marea, and to aid adhesion of the floor levelling compound.

Once the primer had dried, Stopgap 1200 Pro levelling compound was then applied over the entire screed. Fast setting and fast drying, Stopgap 1200 Pro is a two component levelling compound suitable for preparing sound internal subfloors prior to the installation of new floorcoverings. It is suitable for application over clean, uneven concrete and sand/cement screeds and is particularly suitable for use over old adhesive residues (including bitumen and carpet tile tackifiers).

Dual bond system
Prior to the installation of the carpet, a Durafit carpet underlay system was adhered to the levelling compound using Styccobond F40 high tack dual bond adhesive, which offers the option of having a permanent or peelable bond. A permanent bond is achieved by laying the floorcovering into the wet adhesive, while a peelable bond is achieved by allowing the adhesive to completely dry before laying the floorcovering or underlay. This allows suitable carpets or underlays to be lifted for future refurbishments, without significant damage to the floorcovering or subfloor.

Iconic finish
Finally, F. Ball’s iconic Styccobond F3 adhesive was used to install the carpet over the underlay system. Styccobond F3 is a water based rubber/resin flooring adhesive that has excellent wet grab with an early build up of strength. It is protected against bio-degradation and is suitable for use over normal underfloor heating installations.

Clive Manning, Managing Director of Edgeco Ltd., commented: “We always use F. Ball products as we find them to be reliable and we can be certain that they will always enable us to create a professional, durable floor finish. The range of products that our F. Ball representative advised us to use for this refurbishment helped us to recover this floor from flood damage and create a room that our customer was very pleased with.”
