Combatting subfloor moisture
After removing the existing carpet florocoverings and conducting a moisture measurement test throughout the building, contractors found significant levels of moisture to be present.
F. Ball’s ultimate waterproof surface membrane system, Stopgap F77, was used throughout the building. Effective up to relative humidity (RH) levels as high as 98%, Stopgap F77 is a two-part epoxy resin system that creates an unrivalled barrier against moisture in a one-coat application. With a working time of 30 minutes, Stopgap F77 cures in approximately three hours, which helped AztekInteriors contractors to keep time on site down to a minimum.
Levelling the base
Stopgap 600 Base, a deep section base compound, was used to raise floor levels in areas where the subfloor had deteriorated to an uneven state. Stopgap 600 is suitable for use in light to heavy-duty applications, and sets in as little as three hours.
Smooth moves
F. Ball’s minimum preparation, maximum performance smoothing underlayment, Stopgap 1200 Pro, was used to smooth floors across the campus. Stopgap 1200 Pro is designed for use directly over old adhesive residues, including bitumen and carpet tiletackifiers. With a working time of 20 minutes and a walk-on time of just 60 minutes, Stopgap 1200 Pro was ready to receive new floorcoverings in four hours, delivering excellent time-saving benefits on the Cornwall College site.
Sticking with F. Ball
Styccobond F41 carpet tile tackifier was used to adhere carpet floor tiles to the finished subfloor. Providing a permanently tacky film, Styccobond F41 prevents carpet tiles from moving under normal traffic but enables them to be lifted and replaced easily when required, which will make maintenance of the floor across the campus easier in future.
