In the latest in this series, we put our System LVT range into the spotlight, whose products are selected to create the perfect finish for luxury vinyl tile projects. The range is made up of Stopgap 300 HD floor levelling compound, Styccobond F46 pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive, Stopgap P131 general purpose primer, and the new Stopgap P141 primer for non-absorbent surfaces.
Stopgap 300 HD
Stopgap 300 HD is a fast-drying floor levelling compound, suitable for use in light to heavy-duty areas for preparing sound absorbent and non-absorbent subfloors prior to the installation of new floorcoverings. Its excellent self-levelling properties makes it the ideal surface for the installation of LVTs.
It is suitable for use over a wide range of subfloor types including sand/cement screed, concrete, calcium sulphate (e.g. anhydrite), granolithic, terrazzo, epoxy and polyurethane resins, ceramic and quarry tiles and Stopgap waterproof surface membranes. It has high compressive strength, which makes it ideal for heavy-duty applications, such as where there are high levels of foot traffic.
Styccobond F46
Styccobond F46 is a solvent-free pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive that dries to a permanent tack. It is used for securing vinyl, PVC sheet and tile floorcoverings to Stopgap levelling compounds, concrete and sand/cement screeds, plywood, flooring grade chipboard and hardboard. An important feature of this adhesive is its ability to facilitate the installation of impervious floorcoverings, such as vinyl, directly onto non-absorbent surfaces, including epoxy waterproof surface membranes.
It has an extended open time, reducing the risk of late placement and making it ideal for installing more complex designs and patterns. It can also be rolled following trowel application to reduce the incidence of trowel serrations shadowing through thin vinyl flooring and is designed to give strong initial tack and high bond strength, which increases as it is trafficked.
Stopgap P131
Stopgap P131 is a general purpose primer for absorbent and non-absorbent surfaces. It promotes adhesion and prevents unacceptably rapid drying of adhesives and levelling compounds applied to absorbent surfaces. It is also designed to promote the adhesion of Stopgap levelling compounds to smooth non-absorbent surfaces.
Stopgap P131 can be used on absorbent surfaces such as concrete, sand/cement screeds, plywood, hardboard and chipboard. It can also be applied by roller over non-absorbent surfaces and minimal existing adhesive residue. Stopgap P131 is also suitable for use over normal underfloor heating installations.
Stopgap P141
New Stopgap P141 is a fast-drying acrylic primer that has been specially formulated to promote adhesion between Stopgap levelling compounds and non-absorbent subfloors including Stopgap waterproof surface membranes, terrazzo, treated power floated concrete, ceramic tiles, epoxy marine primers and well bonded epoxy and polyurethane coatings. It dries from just 15 minutes and is pigmented yellow to aid coverage uniformity.
Stopgap P141 is particularly beneficial ahead of the application of levelling compounds at thicknesses above 20mm. It contains recycled uPVC pulver, which creates a hard, textured surface to enhance bond performance, making it better able to withstand the increased stress that thicker levelling compounds experience when drying.
