How did you get into the flooring industry?
My father used to manage a carpet wholesalers in South Wales – he offered me a job and I’ve been in the industry ever since.
What’s been the biggest change in the industry over the past 10 years?
The advancement of LVTs has impacted the industry a lot over the past 10 years.
Looking forwards, what do you think will be the biggest change in the next 10 years?
Other than my retirement it’s hard to imagine how the industry will change in the future! Products have advanced so much in recent years and I’m not sure how they could really be improved upon any further.
What’s the worst job you’ve been on?
I’ve been involved in a few residential refurbishments where the rooms have been very smelly and dirty which makes the job generally unpleasant.
And what’s the best?
Most of our customers are great and leave us with clean, empty rooms which is really helpful for us when we arrive on site.
Do you have a go-to product for certain jobs?
We always use F. Ball products. Stopgap 1200, Styccobond F44 and Styccobond F46 are definite firm favourites!
What do you like best about the job?
I really like the variety of this job – I’m constantly meeting new people and taking on new challenges. I also really enjoy being self-employed.
What is your least favourite thing about the job?
The fact that fitters are always complaining! Whether they’re too busy or too quiet, they moan!
