Quick fire questions with Brian Brook from A&B Flooring Ltd.

Name: Brian Brook
Age: 51
Company: A & B Flooring Ltd.
Job Title: Director

How did you get into the flooring industry?
I’ve been in the industry for over 20 years now – I started up the company with my co-director and have been learning ever since!

What’s been the biggest change in the industry in the past 10 years?
The biggest change has most definitely been the increase in Health and Safety rules and regulations. This has been a positive change as people are much more safety conscious on site.

Looking forwards, what do you think will be the biggest change in the next 10 years?
I imagine flooring trends will change in the coming years – when I started, carpet was the most fashionable flooring but in recent years, people have switched to preferring hard flooring. I am sure that the fashion will continue to evolve in the next 10 years.

What’s the worst job you’ve been on?
Generally, large construction sites are more challenging. Logistics, project programmes and H&S can be more problematic due to the sheer scale of the overall sites.

And what’s the best?
We often find that office fit-outs are most hassle-free and satisfactory. Generally, the best jobs are those on which the area is clear, clean and dry!

Do you have a go-to-products for certain jobs?
We always use F. Ball levelling compounds.

What do you like best about the job?
It’s great that every day is different and presents new challenges.

What is your least favourite thing about the job?
Poor subfloors & waiting for deliveries to arrive.
